چکیده

In this paper, computer-aided detection and enhancement of microcalci cations in mammogram images are considered. The mammogram image is rst decomposed into subimages using a 'subband' decomposition lter bank which uses nonlinear lters. A suitably identi ed subimage is divided into overlapping square regions in which skewness and kurtosis as measures of the asymmetry and impulsiveness of the distribution are estimated. All regions with high positive skewness and kurtosis are marked as a regions of interest. Next, an outlier labeling method is used to nd the locations of microcalci cations in these regions. An enhanced mammogram image is also obtained by emphasizing the microcalci cation locations. Linear and nonlinear subband decomposition structures are compared in terms of their e ectiveness in nding microcalci cated regions and their computational complexity. Simulation studies based on real mammogram images are presented.

Contrast Enhancement of Mammograms for Rapid Detection of Microcalcification Clusters

Introduction Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women.  Early detection of breast cancer is the key to reducing the associated mortality rate. The presence of microcalcifications clusters (MCCs) is one of the earliest signs of breast cancer. Due to poor imaging contrast of mammograms and noise contamination, radiologists may overlook some diagnostic signs, specially t...

Detection of Microcalcification in Digital Mammograms Using One Dimensional Wavelet Transform

Mammography is the most efficient method for breast cancer early detection. Clusters of microcalcifications are the early sign of breast cancer and their detection is the key to improve prognosis of breast cancer. Microcalcifications appear in mammogram image as tiny localized granular points, which is often difficult to detect by naked eye because of their small size. Automatic and accurately ...

A Hybrid System Based on a Filter Bank and a Successive Approximations Threshold for Microcalcifications Detection

In this paper, we propose a new hybrid system for microcalcifications detection in digital mammograms, using the combination of the CDF 9/7 filter bank and a successive approximations threshold. Microcalcifications are low contrast samples and only have a few pixels in diameter which are difficult to detect. We shown that microcalcifications have not only support in high frequency regions, but ...

Combination of Wavelet Analysis and Non-Linear Enhancement Function for Computer Aided Detection of Microcalcifications

Microcalcifications are small densities that appear as bright spots on mammograms. Its detection plays a very important role in breast cancer detection at early stages in digitized mammographic images. This paper presents an approach for computer aided detection of microcalcifications. The main idea of the proposed approach is to apply wavelet analysis followed by a non-linear transformation fu...

Wavelets and Wavelet Packets for Mammography

In this paper, computer-aided detection of microcalcifications by multiresolution is performed. We firstly present methods of enhancement of mammograms. A combination of these methods is proposed and makes more obvious the features of the image. The second part of this paper deals with the multiscale image processing for detection of microcalcifications by wavelet and wavelet packets. For the w...
